Party of three

It has been quite an adjustment becoming new parents. Since our arrival home Julia continues to be a happy and healthy baby. Julia was having trouble latching on and my body was not adjusting well to breast feeding so we have had more success with bottle feedings. This is a great help to me because my husband can take turns feeding Julia and bonding with her during this time. Luckily Julia is sleeping in stretches of about 4-6 hours at night. We just can't seem to get enough of our sweet little Julia. When she is awake we spend time talking to her and holding her soothingly. We are starting to see some smiles when she is happy and we can always tell when she is getting sleepy. My husband received a promotion a few months ago so I have decided to take a year off and spend as much time with Julia as possible. We go for walks during the day and read stories in the afternoons. While I know Julia does not understand the plot lines in the children's books we read, she seems content at listening to the cadence of my voice as we read.
One of the more challenging times we've had happened about a month ago when Julia was experiencing some indigestion. She was very fuzzy and at times I thought I was going to lose my patience. As a new mother I have learned it is best to keep calm and gently rock her to sleep and sing her short rhymes to get her to rest. We also like to keep Julia busy when she is awake so she will tire and sleep for longer stretches. Some of her favorite toys are rattles that make a soft noise and the colorful animal mobile above her bed. I can see her vision develop more and more as she watches the animals rotating around her crib. She is starting to recognize objects and stretch her little arms out to try to reach for her rattle and the mobile.
